Depressive Manic / Bipolar Disorder

The term depressive manic is usually referred to as bipolar disorder in this day and age.  Bipolar is a condition that affects a lot of people.  These individuals usually don’t understand that what is happening to them is not normal.  They usually experience mood swings that can elevate from extreme feelings of wellbeing to extreme feelings of depression.  Many also experience a mood that has been described as in between high and low.  Bipolar can be experienced in a mild form.  It is when the condition is extreme that it becomes life altering.  A person who is experiencing a manic episode can have feelings of complete euphoria.  They can even reach a state where they truly believe they are invincible.  Some even believe they have special powers or called to be prophets.  At this time many bipolar sufferers become extremely religious believing they have been given a mission by God.  During this stage the bipolar can become self destructive because he or she believes they are invincible.

Because there is such a feeling of euphoria the bipolar sufferer very often enjoys the manic state.  This state can last from a few hours to many months.  But at some point the sufferer’s mood will change to depression.  The contrast between the manic episode and the depression is acutely felt.  The depression is as severe as the manic mood.  The person feels completely hopeless and full of deep despair.  This is a time when thoughts of suicide can manifest.  It is very important that manic depressive behavior is accurately diagnosed by a professional.  This will prevent the sufferer from carrying out destructive behavior.

Destructive behavior of the manic depressive could take the form of gambling and hyper sexuality that could result in very promiscuous behavior.  This behavior is destructive to the sufferer as well as family members and friends.  It is important to realize the individual can be helped with the right mediation and treatment.
