One of the biggest problems since the middle of the last century is drug addiction, which has become more of a curse for the world. Media and other publications made it famous at the end of the decade of 60s. In one way or another, every one of us is affected by this problem, be it directly or indirectly. People use drugs for many reasons. The reasons might be having fun, or may be seeking refuge from the worries of life. Drugs also come in various intensities; they are mixed in your blood, and make you an addict thus taking you to the brink of death.
A chronic neurological disorder, drug addiction is often followed by abnormal behaviour like, stealing, or forging prescriptions. The addict is so dependent on drugs that he/she cannot think, or act wisely without it. In the beginning, the person takes it as a means of pleasure, but gradually he/she becomes dependant on it.
Drug addictions are of many types, and all these types have their own disadvantages. Sometimes it happens that a person starts taking a drug to relieve his/her pain, which may be emotional, or physical, but when the affect of the drug wears off, he/she starts feeling the pain again. Such a situation only increases his/her frustration, and irritation.
The feeling of guilt gives temptation to drug usage. People, who do not have strong will power, and are cowards, use such means to overcome their fears. Such people may get a single night sleep, but the feeling of guilt never leaves them.
In order to satisfy his/her need for drugs an addict gets into wrong acts against his/her family, friends and even himself/herself. These acts may include lying, not caring for his/her loved ones, hiding truth from them, and cheating on them, stealing etc. when his/her craving increases he/she is ready to commit any wrong act, because in this state, he/she does not have any control over himself/herself.
It is a common notion about the drug addicts that they can get rid of this habit on their own. However, they are people with weak nerves, if they were that strong they would not have started taking drugs in the first place. Many new studies and researches have cleared various false beliefs about drug addicts. Various rehabilitation centres treat these addicts and make them useful beings. Drug addicts are a shame for the society. Addicts can behave in any way, and there is no future ahead for them. Anything can be expected from him/her for the fulfilment of his/her needs. He/she does not respect people, and so gets the same in return. their families and friends avoid and mistreat them.
Drug addict is the stigma of a society. An addict has no future; one can expect anything from him/her. He/she can commit a sin or a crime anytime to fulfil his/her desire to consume drugs. He/she disrespects people, and in return, is never respected by others. People avoid addicts, and they are neglected not only by their friends, but also by their families.
To cut the long story short, drug addiction makes you a bad person, because addiction makes you commit wrong acts, but they need support from society otherwise they do not have any chance of survival. The government should provide free treatment to such people. Drug addicts should be helped out, and be supported, because due to the lack of these two elements they have reverted to drugs.
