These symptoms can begin as sudden feelings of terror that have no basis in fact. There is no real way to predict when a panic attack will occur, and this can turn into one of the symptoms. The anxiety of wondering when the next attack will occur can make things worse.

People suffering from panic attacks will most likely experience pounding of the heart, and start to feel sweaty, faint, weak, or dizzy. The reason this usually happens is because panic attacks have happened in places or situations so there is a memory of these happening when the person is returned to that place or circumstance. For example, if you have suffered from a panic attack while riding an elevator, you may develop a fear of elevators because of it.

Between 3 and 6 million people in America suffer from panic disorder symptoms. This condition affects women twice as much as men. It has no age limits, as it can begin as early as childhood, or as late in life as in the elderly. However, it usually happens most often in young adults. Everyone who has a panic attack does not always go on to have more of them. But if you find yourself having first one, and then more, you should not hesitate to get treatment.

Panic Attacks and Anxiety

facesAlthough panic attacks and anxiety can be related to each other, they can also be completely separate entities with their own set of symptoms. Either of these conditions can become problematic if the symptoms escalate beyond the normal range. It is at this point, that treatment will need to be sought.

Anxiety is a reaction to stress, and this is considered to be normal. It is something that can help someone deal with tense situations in different areas of one’s life, such as at work, school, or just something that requires facing a crowd of people. If anxiety starts to become an excessive and irrational dread of facing everyday situations, it has crossed into the area of a disabling disorder.

Panic attacks and anxiety differ in the fact that, while anxiety usually builds to a point, panic attacks can hit at any time with no warning. A panic attack is a sudden feeling of overwhelming fear of something that cannot be named. There is rarely any obvious reason for the feelings of panic, and is much more intense than the feelings of anxiety or being overly stressed.

One out of every 75 people in the world will have a panic attack at some point in their lives. The good news is that most of these adults will never have another panic attack. However, these statistics show that panic attacks and anxiety are the most common emotional disorders, even more so than bipolar disorders, ADHD, depression, OCD schizophrenia, phobias, and alcohol abuse. In addition to this, people suffering from panic and anxiety disorders rarely go looking for help with their problem.

There are some similarities between the two disorders as well as the fact that anxiety can lead to panic attacks. If you experience enough anxiety about something, it can easily become serious and intense enough to work into a full blown panic attack. This is why if you notice yourself starting to be overly anxious about something, or just life in general, it is time to seek help in getting it under control before it becomes too much for you to handle.

Panic attacks and anxiety are not pleasant and can actually become quite debilitating. However, anyone who suffers from either or both of these should take heart in knowing that there is help available to enable the person with this disorder to lead a normal life. All it takes is asking for the help you need.

Panic Attacks and Depression

depressedThe relationship between panic attacks and depression can be viewed as a very strong one, with the onset of panic attacks linked to causing depression.   To the sufferer of frequent panic attacks, just the worry and dread alone of when the next attack will occur is enough to cause a depressive state. It is a very real condition.

People who suffer from debilitating panic attacks are often more prone to being depressed than those who lead normal lives. When those symptoms of a racing or pounding heart, profuse sweating, and terror begin, it’s no wonder that these unfortunate people also suffer from depression. Never knowing when one of these attacks will strike is a huge part of the problem. However, just the fact that another attack WILL happen is also a rather depressing realization.

There are ways to control, and possibly cure, these panic attacks but it is not usually an easy road. Without knowing what the root cause of the panic is, it is much more difficult to find the answers to ridding yourself of them. The one thing that may keep you actively searching for a way to control them is the knowledge that by discovering the cause and dealing with that, you will also help the depression.

For the more severe form of panic attacks, many health professionals will suggest medication that is meant to alleviate the anxiety that brings about an attack. Once the correct dosage of the right medication for your personal situation is found, this can be an excellent help to fight off panic attacks. You may also be taught other forms of relaxation to use in conjunction with the medication.

If you prefer a more natural means of treating your panic attacks and depression, there are many herbalists and holistic medicine practitioners who can suggest the right herbal remedy for you. These natural remedies will nearly always include the use of relaxing techniques, such as meditation, or exercise. You will be given instructions regarding things to try until you find the one that works best for you.

The important thing to remember is that whatever method you find that works for your particular situation, it is the one you should stay with. While you may never find the true cause of your panic and anxiety, it is very possible to treat and control this disorder.
